Confession time. I have never achieved my front porch goals or even come close! Houses with gorgeous farmhouse style porches have always been my favorite. I look at them and then stick a planter on my stoop and never do anything else. Then I forget to water the plant and it dies. Doesn’t that sound inviting? When I think of porches I automatically think of Chip and Joanna Gaines home. Joanna doesn’t over-decorate her porches but they are always so welcoming.
On this week’s episode of Fixer Upper, they gave the Barker House AKA “The Worm House” a sweeping porch overlooking their massive acreage and its just perfection.
Our porch is tiny compared to this but we do have enough room to do something cute. We haven’t tackled it because we end up working on our interior, where we spend more time. In Upstate NY, summer is 5 minutes long. So if you’re not sitting on the porch when that happens, you’ll miss it. Ok seriously, its time to look for inexpensive ways to decorate and get this done! I know not many people use that door but I think the UPS and Fedex delivery people who do see my porch deserve better!!
I’m going to tackle this makeover like I do many projects I’ll do some thrift shopping, add some inexpensive new items, and then try to add something customized that represents our family. Most of the items in this post are from Amazon or Etsy.
A small bench will fit on the porch. I’m going to look for one at thrift shops and flea markets to paint, or maybe convince hubster to make one. If I can’t find one there are lots of great options online like this one from amazon. It’s only $85.80!!
Of course I’ll need some cushions. If you’re a fan of Fixer Upper you know the quote on this pillow ! Amazon has hundreds of cushions in all styles at really affordable prices.
Boxwood is another staple of farmhouse decor. It looks gorgeous in a wreath or a planter. It bums me out a bit that I have to keep my wreath inside my screen door but I’ve lost many wreaths to the birds that steal pieces of them! This boxwood wreath is handmade.
A historic style plaque is a must for my design. Although, having a name plaque in a blended family is tough so I’ll have to just use some other info! Maybe it can say Centsible Chateau. 😉 This will look sharp on my black front door.
These galvanized planters would be perfect on the steps with wildflowers in them!
Here’s another signature Joanna piece. She uses items with the saying “Gather” all around her flip houses. This mat is a must have for my my farmhouse style porch makeover.
Those are just some of my favorite pieces I really want to include. This vision board has many more ideas, and I wanted to share them with you! To shop the look, just click the number below. Let’s all hope we get to porch sit sooner rather than later!
