If you’re obsessed with homes and décor you probably notice every movie homeSometimes I lose track of the plot because I’m swooning over their wainscoting, wall color or most often the kitchen. I definitely have favorite houses, so I decided to “build” my dream home from the rooms in each house I love. Of course we have no budget for this house!
First, I have to pick the exterior of the house. I really am quite traditional in that regard. This house, according to online records, sold for a mere $41 million so it’s completely reasonable for me to believe I can have it. Right? I have to go with…
Exterior from The Southhampton home featured in Something’s Gotta Give
Cameron Diaz’s California living room from The Holiday.
I can’t just have the room, I need the hallway and the giant doors and must add the courtyard, too!
Kate Winset’s bedroom from The Holiday.
You had me at those beams.
The Bathroom from It’s Complicated.
I don’t think you can have a stressful day if you have this tub.
The Dining Room from Something’s Gotta Give
I’m going back to the Hamptons for my dining room. Honestly, it’s impossible to believe a $41-million house has such a quaint dining room but it’s movie magic! If you want to see my real life dining room, you can find it here.
I saved the best for last. There is no contest for my favorite kitchen in a movie. The winner for me is………
The Kitchen from It’s Complicated.
In real life I would probably think it was a pretty cluttered kitchen, but it is my all-time favorite movie kitchen. Maybe it’s because Meryl Streep’s character makes it so warm and inviting. It’s the perfect open plan kitchen and a mix of modern and retro. Plus she makes lavender ice cream and croquet monsieur!
And now for the bonus house. We’re pretending we can have whatever we want, so I need a vacation cottage in Surrey, England right? I spent part of my childhood in England and have an obsession with English cottages, so I must have Kate Winslet’s from The Holiday.
What’s amazing is that I discovered during creating “my house” that all of these movie houses were actually styled by the same person. This designer has incredible talent. I guess if I ever find myself with millions of extra dollars I’ll hire her to create my dream house!
