Decorating your whole home can be overwhelming and incredibly expensive. If you shopped for every room of your house at a normal retail store it would literally cost you thousands of dollars. We are often asked where we find all of our bargains. So for those of you who love budget-friendly decor, I’m sharing some of my favorite places to find inexpensive home goods. I tried to stick with places that have a national presence so you find something where you live. I didn’t rank these because its just too hard. I love them all.
Here are my Top Ten Places to Shop Farmhouse Decor on a Budget:
Thrifting really changed my approach to decorating. I talked about my fear of design commitment in our About Us page. If you change your style a lot or need to save money, thrifting is a game-changer. You can get fabulous furniture and accessories with prices that won’t make you feel guilty about shopping. Here are my favorite thrifty sources not just for farmhouse home decor, but for any style!
Five of My Favorite Thrift Stores to Find Farmhouse Decor
Goodwill
These are some of the best stores to find treasures. There is always home décor available and it is sometimes new in the original package. Plus, you’re supporting the mission of these thrift stores and helping people in your own community. If you need cute vases, jars, platters, cake stands or other glassware this is your place! If you’re looking for furniture to paint, they have a ton! Definitely shop around holiday time because people donate all their unopened decor. I got this clock at a Goodwill store, brand new for $25. At Pottery Barn this clock runs almost $200. Click here to find your local Goodwill store.
Craigslist
If you are decorating or renovating a home, craigslist is a goldmine! I usually buy only brand new items there. I purchased a brand new corian counter for my old house for $30! You can find brand new tile, kitchen cabinets, wood flooring, doors, and more. You can also find vintage and refinished furniture. Of course use caution and don’t go to any creepo’s houses 😉
Antique Stores and Flea Markets
Don’t be intimidated by the word antique, not all of these stores are filled with expensive furniture. Many “antiques” aren’t super valuable but are old and beautiful. Plus, shop owners and flea market vendors will haggle with you. The more you go, the more they will negotiate because they know you’ll be back. I bought this adorable little piece at an antique store for $60 and refinished it with milk paint. You can see the makeover here.
Habitat for Humanity Restore
This place is awesome, and they have stores nationwide! Your purchase at this store helps build homes for people in need. So buy a lot!!! Every store is different so if you have a few locally, visit them all. They have brand new items to help you renovate your home, often donated by local and big box retailers like Lowe’s and Home Depot. They also have used items like full sets of kitchen cabinets! I’ve seen brand new appliances, doors, windows and more! The chandelier in our dining room was $20 at the Restore. Find a Habitat for Humanity Restore near you.
Facebook Garage Sales
These sales are fairly new but I see gorgeous items for sale all of the time. I found my dining room buffet on my local page, already painted, and paid around $200 for it. I used to go to a lot of regular garage sales but with craiglist and facebook I find that I don’t really have to go to those anymore. If you find a great piece but don’t like the color its so easy to repaint it with chalk paint like I did my hall stand.

All of the items I recommend are items I truly love! Read our disclaimer here.
Homegoods, TJ Maxx and Marshalls
I listed these together because they are the same company. I can spend a whole day at these stores with coffee in hand, digging for the most unique items. Half of my house is from Homegoods. Even though the prices are pretty good, I usually wait until things are on clearance because I’m cheap like that. I have so many linens and decorations from these stores, including these cute new lace pillowcases in our guest room. They are from Homegoods and were only $9.99 for two pillowcases. Although the three stores are owned by the same company, Marshalls and TJ Maxx usually have a completely different selection of décor. So it’s a must to shop them all! TJ Maxx also launched an online store.
Hobby Lobby
Where do I even start? Their selection is insanely huge. They have crafty things, décor items, party stuff, fabric, yarn, and a selection of wall décor second to none. Now, I think they are a bit on the expensive side but they always have coupons and sales which makes their prices better! I decorated my Farmhouse Style Shelves with items from Hobby Lobby. For locations and coupons visit their website.
World Market
I first found a World Market in North Carolina, they are still one of my favorite places because they have tons of farmhouse style decor and free shipping promos all the time. I got my dining room table there. Here’s a side by side comparison with a $2600 table from Arhaus. This table is only $349 now!!!!!
Michaels
Although this is a craft store, they have a huge selection of home decor. They always have coupons for 40-50% off at least one item and their clearance is super inexpensive. Plus, if you don’t want to buy the ready-made item you can find the stuff to make it! You can also shop online now! For coupons, store locations, and to shop online visit their website!
Amazon
If Homegoods is the brick and mortar mothership, Amazon is the online equivalent. Before I buy anything retail I check Amazon. I can usually find the same brand name item for significantly less than other stores. With Amazon Prime two-day shipping you can’t go wrong. You can find everything big and small there. I’ve purchased light fixtures, shutters, tons of farmhouse decor and accessories. I could write an entire blog on all of the great stuff I’ve bought from amazon. Here’s one example. These handles look very similar to Pottery Barn handles and I paid so much less. These handles were even cheaper when I ordered them but its still a savings of over $70 on 10 drawer handles.

There are so many other great stores, I could probably make an honorable mention list. I know that bloggers and decorators love IKEA, but sadly there isn’t one within six hours of my house. If I was near one, and I could get one of their kitchens, they would surely make the list!
There you have them, my Top Ten Places to Find Farmhouse Decor on a Budget! I hope my list helps you find decorations that fit in your budget and help you create the perfect home. Where is your favorite place to find bargain decor? I would love to hear from you about where else I should be shopping or your favorite bargain pieces!

Goodwill and Hobby Lobby are two of my favorite places to shop! I think 90% of my home has been furnished using those two stores-and on a very reasonable budget. Hobby Lobby has everything. Literally everything.
So true! The signs they have lately are my favorite 🙂
All my favorites! Thanks for linking up to #HomeMattersParty
A lot of these places are my go-tos as well. I have the same fear of decor commitment, but when I thrift something and upcycle it, I can sell it whenever I’m ready for a change and make money instead of lose money. Definitely the way to go!
Yes! that’s a great strategy! So much easier to change decor if you haven’t invested thousands of dollars!
Such a great post! Love all of the ideas and always looking for home decor on a budget. I’m love ETSY, Home Goods and Target!
Best,
Emily

I love shopping at all of those stores. And I always think this is how to make your home uniquely yours when you do shop at thrift stores.
I love thrift shops and estate sales for finding bargains. There’s always such a neat selection and it changes all the time so you never get bored. And if you get tired of it, there’s no guilt about donating it and replacing it with something.
This is a very thorough list – thank you for putting it together. Like you, my kitchen is a mix of thrift shop finds and Home Good bargains. It’s amazing what you can pick up when you know what you are looking for, and have an idea of the cost. I will check back to this list next time I am out on the hunt! Visiting from Finding Silver Pennies link party.
