Halloween is so fun when you have little kids. I loved taking my boys shopping for their costumes and then trick or treating. When my kids left for college it was really hard for me to get in the Halloween spirit at all. The thought of decorating and buying candy made me sad that my kids weren’t around anymore. I haven’t decorated or handed out candy in a few years. Yes, I’m the neighbor who turned the lights out!
This year I decided to change my attitude about the holiday. After looking at my old Halloween decorations I realized I needed some new stuff, it was in pretty sad shape. While looking through my favorite stores I found spooky inspiration at Cost Plus World Market.
I’ve shopped at Cost Plus World Market for years, it’s one of my favorite stores. They have adorable home decor with the best prices. I even ordered my dining room table from there. They also have a big selection of holiday items including seriously scary Halloween Decorations! I decided to create a petrifying porch, but if you would rather have cute non-scary decor they have a great selection of that too.
While I was shopping I found these great skeleton mugs and since Cost Plus World Market always has the best selection of coffee from around the world, I grabbed a bag of that too. We went to get pumpkins and cornstalks to go with our decor and when we got back I made this apple cider coffee which was absolutely delicious. (Especially with apple cider donuts!)
It was awesome using these bony mugs! They are big chunky mugs and if you’re a coffee addict like me you know how important it is to have the perfect sized coffee cup to hold!
It turns out I had a blast decorating. We hung this netting across one side of the porch. It comes with the bats which easily stick into it. This netting is really gauzy,it’s made of real fabric. I love how it looks like a spider web but also holds the bats. Crows are definitely a symbol of Halloween and horror movies so I knew this doormat would look perfect on the porch. Truth be told I’m afraid of all birds, crows are just extra scary!
These bony dudes will light up for Halloween night. I think they are pirate skeletons, they have gold teeth! We hung them right over the step to welcome visitors.
We hung this boo-tiful bride in the corner. I’m quite sure she’s going to scare me as much as she can before Halloween.
When you walk by that little window you can see her out of the corner of your eye and she’s already made me jump a couple times when I’m inside the house!
As scary as she is the ghost bride has nothing on her psycho sister in black. I don’t think we should look into her eyes. Look what happened to the last person who did!If you know scary movies then you know this girl looks like she’s about to climb out of your well or your TV and slink across the floor! The black skeletons are from World Market, too. They hold candles that look like brains.
I think we’re ready for Trick or Treaters if they dare come to the door!
Decorating the porch definitely got me out of the Halloween funk. I adore my Petrifying Halloween Porch Decorations and I can’t wait to light everything up on Halloween night for the Trick or Treaters.

I’m like you, Halloween lost some of its fun once the kids grew up and moved away. Last year I decided to do a Halloween party with friends. It was a blast and I turned our home into the perfect spooky place. My sister helped with it so we called it “The Twisted Sisters Cafe”. One of the best decorations was the “baked” rat casserole in the oven. (Fake of course). My husband had cut branches from a tree so I used that to decorate the front porch along with an inflatable dragon. We just had my daughter’s wedding so I don’t think I’ll be doing a party again this year but oh it was fun! Love your spooky decor. You’re all ready for a scary Halloween!
I love the theme Twisted Sister’s Cafe! That sounds so fun! It’s so hard to get back into the fun when the kids leave, but I’m truly glad I did!
